It's funny...never thought of meditating in the way that Monks do. Seriously. To me, it used to be this 'woo-woo-woo' (cue: ghosts in the background) kind of thing that people with a serious case of personality conflict do. Blame it on society.
(from here on, i don't care about grammar and caps anymore. i forget that this blog is not one that i write to promote my writing services) :-)))))) grin for me, please.
meditating is as important to the Monks as it is to everyone else. it is not always about the chanting, the phrases and all the meanings behind all the sutras and stuff. it is about sitting down there, taking a moment to reflect on yourself and the world around you.
and if you have tried meditating, you will know this in your heart when i say that, for beginners, it's bloody hard! it's like forcing a child with ADHD to sit still for....like 20 minutes.
but you should. do i? yes, i do!!! as a matter of fact, i have gotten so used to it and have benefited from the feeling that it gives me so much so that i have become to count on it and is addicted to it. just sitting down and doing absolutely nothing, thinking nothing much (sometimes you use your imagination because it helps make meditation not so boring and prevent you from nodding off) and just....be there....breathing. enjoying moments of silence.
try it. i won't say it's fun coz....hehehe....but it is very, very effective as a stress-reliever.

GRIN for you!! HEHE. I gotta agree with you about meditating - how it is like forcing a child with ADHD to sit still. But at the end of the day, meditation allows you to reach into the deepest depth of your consciousness and that is something most people need, really. To find out who you are, deep down inside, away from all the thick layers of "faces" that we wear.
